Pounds - yardage

In an old issue of Golf Magazine, there was an interesting page about the relationship between weight and yardage. There are rare players who can drive the yardage twice their weight in pounds. Examples are Annika Sorenstam and Hidemichi Tanaka, both around 140 pounds and drive about 280 yards.

This has me thinking. I'm 5'8 and weigh 128 pounds, and the good drives I can make (without any wind helping) is about 260 yards, and make an average of 245 yards. So making an average of 280 yards seems unrealistic.

How much do you guys (and gals) weigh and how long do you drive max (without any wind) and average ?

i'm about 6'1" 190lbs. max drive is about 290. average is around 250 or so. i think it gets hard to double your weight in yardage the bigger you are.

Interesting. I'm 5'8" and weigh 135 and average about 255 off the tee. I've hit the ball 270 before, but not with any consistency - I'd really have to stroke it. I guess at 250yds (to be conservative) creates a 7% variance when compared to the 270 suggested average, so that GD insight is probably true.

Yes, I'm an accountant.

The only firm Height/weight rule that I know of , is the rule of Spandex.

Any woman who weighs more than 2X her height in inches, should not be allowed to wear Spandex in public.

It's a simple rule, but I think we need better enforcement!

I'm 6 feet and last year I was 220 lb hitting average 280-285 yards. I dumped 55 lb. since (feels great) and now I'm hitting 10-15 yards longer. Oh, I forgot to mention that I also changed the driver from Taylor Made R7 to Callaway Big Bertha 454. I think that I gained the distance because I increased the swing speed on downhill and hips rotation.
