Upgrading Older Irons

have a set of Ping BeCu ISI's that I purchased in 1996. Love the set up and feel and have never been to duplicate this with other sticks I have tried. What I ended up doing is going to The Complete Golfer in White Plains, N.Y. For $100.00 they did an analysis of the clubs' performance with my swing. Then did a comparision with me using various other clubs and shafts with my swing. The Complete Golfer is what I would describe as a club diagnostic center. The machinery and technology utilized to measure every aspect of the clubs and perfromance were amazing. They checked lofts, swing weights, swing speed, trajectory, ball spin, shaft weight and lengths. I learned my 1996 clubs were way too heavy, the shafts far to stiff for my 2008 swing speed, did not have consistant swing weights and not one loft matched Ping's loft degree specs. BTW, this is not uncommon with other manufacturers as well.
I got the lofts bent to the correct degrees and trajectories, had new Nippon R light weight steel shafts put on that were 25 grams lighter and new Golf Pride grips that were also lighter and trued up the swing weights. This cost me about $385.
It's like having new irons. Just fantastic. The best part is that I kept the ISI copper heads that I didn't want to give up. Just a great experience and worth every penny

Changing old club shafts etc.

I have just purchased a used set of Ping ISI S irons with the following :

Shaft Type: Steel
Shaft Flex: Stiff
Shaft Mfr: Ping
Shaft Model: DGS w/ Cushin
Lie Angle: Ping Green Dot
Length: +0.50"

I am 58 years old with a 11.2 handicap. It appears that the stiff steel shafts are not suited for me. The shafts that came on this set or too harsh with an extreme low ball flight. I am thinking of changing the shafts to regular graphite or light weight regular steel. Do you think this will help?
Thanks -- Bill S

Changing shafts will definitely improve performance and provide you a way to optimize your ball striking with your particular swing. I prefer steel shafts to graphite because I feel graphite dull the vibration too much where as steel provides more feedback. In my case I chose a light weight Nippon shaft for my ISI's. They are 25 grams lighter than the old steel shafts that were on the clubs. Huge difference.
There are other light weight steel shafts you may want to look at as well. Also, Nippon makes a graphite shaft with a steel coating that is pretty advanced and will provide the best attributes of both materials.
Best of Luck

The Iron Factory does a great job restoring older forged irons and wedges.

I recently saw a set of 1984 Titleist Tour Model irons that looked brand new--new chrome, new paint fill, new scoring lines, new shafts, new grips, reset lofts and lies.

Not my place to ask what it cost, but I imagine it wasn't cheap. Maltby GolfWorks used to do that sort of work as well, but I'm not sure if they still do.

Just wanna buy a Callaway X-20 Irons Set from golforderonline.com for my daddy as a Christmas gift. He is a golf fan, played golf for about 5 years, but I don’t know where can I find a reasonable price, because I cannot afford in the local shop, it cost much, any advise?
