New Golfer, Please Help :)

My dad recently gave me a set of Scotch Blade clubs that once belonged to my grandpa. Unfortunately, the clubs are in bad shape. The heads on all of them are good, however the shafts are rusty and the grips are sticky. Any suggestions on how I can clean them? I am just beginning to play, so I don't want to spend a lot of money. Would it be better/cheaper to take them and have them re-gripped and cleaned or should I just purchase a decent (on the cheaper side) set of clubs??? I 'm not really sure what to do. Any insight and advise would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks all

If you've never played before, you probably won't want to learn with these clubs. You can get a decent set designed for beginners for not a lot of money. I would recommend going to a golf shop and having them help you out, they can steer you in the right direction.

Get rid of those things. Go on ebay and find yourself a set of Tommy Armour 845's. One of the most classic of all designs ever. A great way to start your golf career. Also, because they were made before the Tommy Armour Golf Company failed and was eventually purchased by a large golf manufacturing holding company, they were very well made and can be had for a song now.
