what's your favorite ball?

is one better than another for a starter? After glancing through all of the available balls, there are just so many. I was curious if the ball makes that big of a difference in the game.

Most starters will start with a ball that is equivelant to a range ball. When I started out I used Top Flites, they are cheap and decent balls.

Now I have been playing for a few years (12) and have worked my way up to the Callaway HX Tours. As you move up you will notice that the feel of the shell will change.

I find that whenever I can pick up some Pro V1's at a local shop from the "basket 'o balls" for about a buck each, they usually play pretty well. I'm sure there is an occasional waterlogged ball in the mix but for the most part they're all barely used balls that were retrieved from the trees on local courses. It's cheap enough that I'm not wasting a fortune on balls yet I'm getting a good ball that feels nice (and yeah, I can feel the difference between these and, say, Top Flite X-Outs). I would not, however, go and buy these balls at full price. I just lose them too darn fast!

A good cheap ball to play with is the Nike Powersoft. It's very inexpensive and can be found anywhere for no more then $15 a dozen. I find that its got great feel while putting and gets great distance off the tee. Another ball that I would choose is the Titleist NXT or the NXT tour ball. A little more expensive then the Nike, but not the most expensive ball out there. Again you will get great feel and distance with both NXT balls, but its all personal preference.

I personally have been playing since i was 9 and have used many different balls growing up but i have finally narrowed it down to 3 brands. I like the Titleist ProV1x, Callaway HX tour 56 or the Taylormade TP Black. But to be quite honest it took me awhile to narrow it down to those 3 choices, so I recommend that you play a twilight round and play 3 different balls, that way you can see the difference in each ball. That will also help you narrow it down to what ball suits you the best.

I tend to play Nike mojo or Callaway HX hot. Those tend to have the best outcome for me alone. I think it depends on the clubs and the person. But then again a cheap ball will do pretty bad too.

Maxfli Red Max is a good ball for a beginner. I'm also looking forward to trying the new Fire ball.

I'm using the new Nike Juice ball, seems to work well for me the mojo not bad as-well, more distance nice feel.$20.00 a dozon not bad. Used balls are unpredictable on the greens and off the tee, gatta go with new ones even if they are top flites.

I'd start with anything you don't mind losing, especially if you're starting out. I used to play with just about anything. And would look for balls on the course when I went after the ones I would lose.

Now, I look for a ball that has the spin characteristics that I like.

I like the 2nd poster use nike powersoft as well. My dad purchased me a box full almost, he got a good deal on them. So I have plenty of them, so I think that's what I will be using for a while.
