Spin?

So I was watching the masters yesterday and I realized that pro's are able to control spin and 'stop' a ball on a dime. I figured out how do to that by controlling the height of my shot, hit a wedge by opening up the face and stance. But how do I work on stopping my ball using spin? any advice? certainly practice but practice what exactly?

Thanks

Duke
