Golf on TV

Do you enjoy watching golf tournaments on tv? I know it's probably the only way most of us are going to see the big names in some of the big tournaments, but I'm just not a big fan. Now, I can play (although, not that well) and I can watch it live and enjoy both - but find it strangely uninteresting on TV.

I wonder why that is....maybe I just don't like the commentators talking like all of the viewers are idiots.

they don't show enough golf either. Too many interviews and commercials. They show 1 or 2 shots then go to commercial. Plus they show too much putting. I want to see how a player attacks a hole or how he plays it strategically. Drives and tee shots are more fun to watch to get that aspect. And nothing is more exciting than a 2nd shot on a par 5 when a player is going for the green. Golf is poorly covered. I love watching the US amateur where you can see just about every shot played in the finals...

Agreed. People have the conception that watching golf on tv is boring. And they're right. And I'm a golfer saying that. There's also another thread here that covers golf in high definition. All of the other sports get high def coverage but many times (even on my local hi def channel) golf is always broadcast in regular resolution. Guess they figure there's not enough interest to spend the money on doing it the "right" way.

You would think that the sport would get a little more respect than it does, especially after golfers being named the male AND female athletes of the year.

And maybe the amount of actual coverage is what bothers me about watching on tv. Put all of the interviews and whatnot on SportsCenter or whatever and let us watch what's going on! I know it's not fast moving and probably doesn't make for "good" (aka profitable) TV, but if you don't like the sport, you're not going to tune in for all of the "other" stuff either.

Yes I agree they make gold boring and not to mention they put to much emphasis on putting. People who don't golf think it is just like putt putt because of it. But sometimes I catch one or two good golf tournaments once in a while.

I love watching it on TV but they never put the full shows on. Just edited highlights. Really gets my goat up.

I watch sometimes, but usually not a hole round. What I really get tired of is if Tiger is in the tournament they seem to just cover him. I also like to watch the LPGA which is mostly covered on the Golf Channel.

I tend to only watch on Sundays because, as stated earlier, puts don't hold much excitement until they are really worth something. Plus, you watch every shot by the leader on the last day
