Club fitting....

A little background:

I used to play in HS, then gave up the game for about 12 years. It's been about a year now and I have completely changed my swing from what I used to do when I was younger.

They used to teach more of an inside takeaway now the swing I am learning is more upright. As a result I have been seeing a lot of toe heavy divots, something that was not a problem.

Went to Nevada Bob's to get new grips, and decided to check out the club fitting they have available. Turns out that I was only making contact on the swing board with the toe of the club. Tried a club with 5 deg. more upright lie and there you have it....right in the middle. He also wanted me to have a slightly longer club, but I figure one change at a time. This is pretty radical to begin with. But man was I making sweet contact, can't wait to get the hooks back tomorrow, new grips and new lies.

Did you know that when you swing the club not only flexes back but also the toe goes down. Didn't believe it until I saw the slow mo pics. You should be toe up a little at address.

Hope this works for me!

Yep. I got mine fitted and I need 1 inch extensions therefore I needed a lie angle adjustment. When I first got them back the toe was a bit off the ground at address but the divot is even all the way around after the shot. Big difference before when the toe side was a bit deeper and I would always push the ball to the right.

Were your divots any shallower?

By the way, have you seen your swing on video? It is likely that your hands are several inches higher at impact than they were at address. It's pretty astounding when you see it for the first time.

My divots are indeed shallower. I've been working on that ever since the swing changes, but they are definitely more on line now.

I have seen my swing on video but it has been a long time since then.

Depends on the club for me. Of course the shorter irons leave a deeper divot but my long iron are relatively the same.

I too have a question about club fitting.... I have been playing with my starter set for about 2 years now, and I feel like I should get a new set of irons. I want to get it fitted, because i'm a pretty short guy (5'6") and feel like I need to adjust some things that could help me. My biggest concern is that if I change parts of my swing it might waste the money I have spent in club fitting... is there any truth to my concerns?

Your swing will always change so you mine as well change it based on the correct lie angle and length of club.

I had to have an inch added to all my irons but it made a big difference in my ability to swing comfortably.

My clubs are extended one inch and are 2* upright for the lie angle.

The biggest thing that I noticed when I got the clubs was my balance during my followthrough. I used to end up on my toes at the end of my swing.

This season, I got my old sand wedge extended and bent to match the rest of the set. I am so much more confident with the wedge now.

I also had my hybrid extended which has helped as well. I have a TM rescue mid. I am hitting it much better since it has been extended. Does anyone know if you can get hybrid clubs bent or can you order them with custom lie angles?
