Although I enjoy a good outing with friends there is something about the scramble format that bothers me. I can't figure out what it is, though. I started thinking about it during an outing yesterday. I was playing with friends - each of them plays to a 15-20 handicap. We had just played an easy hole and narrowly missed our birdie putt. Three of us hit good drives and second shots with 3 balls to choose from on the green. Behind us is a bunch of clowns in sneakers and shorts. They are all over the hole we just played. One guy whiffs his second shot in but takes another anyway. One of them ends up blading his second shot and it screams up near the green but short. Three of them hit their pitches fat from there and one guy dribbles his onto the green. They sink the putt for a par. Same score as us!

I know some of you will say that is what is great about a scramble. To each his own. I'd rather play better-ball of partners or my own ball. Scramble is just a putting contest, IMO.

That is why I only play in 2 ball scrambles. CHEATERS...

i like scrambles because usually you're just out there to have fun anyways, and once a good shot is hit you can just grip it and rip it. its probably not good for your swing to be doing that but i don't really give a **** anymore cuz i'm not playing competitively anymore.
