1956: Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin perform their last show together.

1983: George Brett's home run against the Yankees waved off because it was ruled that he had pine tar farther up the bat than the legal 18 inches. The decision was later reversed and the game finished at a later date.

Birthdays today:

City of Detroit: 1701
Simon Bolivar: 1783
Alexandre Dumas: 1802
Amelia Earhart: 1898
Doug Sanders: 1933
Lynda Carter: 1951
