Why Use Hybrids ?

I'm just now trying to get used to mine. I've always hit my low irons pretty poorly and I can safely say that after only a few times on the range hitting it that I think it will come in handy the next time I have a ~175 yard shot to the green that it will save me. My long irons would put me either very short (flub) or put me pin high but with a wicked slice and still leave me with a hard wedge onto the green. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, but probably won't put it to the test until after I hit the range a few more times. It feels different because my brain is telling me to hit it like a wood but you really have to focus on the fact that you need to hit it like an iron.
